GEM Newsletter

a gif with, at its centre, the word GEM in glittery purple capital letters against a dark blue black starry sky. Beneath this, in plain purple text, it reads "newsletter". Behind these words, a sparkle storm of gold glitter and stars explodes and shimmers down the page, fading away. Around the words, a fizzy square of gold glitter appears, as though being swiftly drawn in, then fades away.

We look forward to sharing more with you about what GEM has manifested up until now, and the dreams we are dreaming for the future.  You can catch up with our newsletters here, and share them with anyone you feel may be interested in knowing GEM a little more.

You can download this newsletter here: GEM January note.

A mini newsletter talking about the continuation of the How We Build Home exhibition and a new blog post from the Black Presence project. Main part of image is the body of the newsletter, with a dark amethyst crystal background, overlaid with text and images. First paragraph greets readers, the second talks about the exhibition continuing at Museum of Home until 15th January, and the third presents the new Black Presence section on GEM's site, along with a newly written blog post. To the right of the second paragraph is an image of part of a display at the exhibition, a photograph of a young man, mainly surrounded by darkness, next to a piece of writing by Azeezat Johnson titled The Promise. To the left of the third paragraph is an illustration by Ceú - it shows a woman in an ankara dress, arms raised and crossed at the wrists. Beyond her is a full moon, then the sun, from which linked arms emerge. She is flanked by plants, and the background is a starry night sky.

First page of GEM's spring 2024 newsletter. Banner shows GEM in amethyst-patterned letters. The tag line reads "A community of public scholars demanding and embodying liberation" and then "Newsletter May 2024". There is an image on the page with the following caption and description: "Entrance to Starry, Starry Night, an installation based on Azeezat’s blog Starry Nights and part of the How We Build Home exhibition Image description: a video still: close-up of a multicoloured curtain of beads and material strands hanging at the entrance to a dark room; the shape of a cushioned seat can be vaguely seen through the curtain, and dots of green light prick the darkness." The intro on the lower half of the page reads "As we live through the necessary witnessing of multiple and ongoing genocides, oppressions and the distressingly familiar and brutal state violence in response to dissent and protest, we stand firm on resisting in any way we are able. And even within all this and more, we make space for softness and care - this too can be a necessary part of resistance. We hope you are able to find the balance you need to keep going. With love and solidarity, GEM Collective" The page itself has a background of a purple/blue-coloured galaxy sky, with white pin-pricks of stars and other celestial bodies.
