Solidarity for Sudan event

We are immensely excited to invite you to Solidarity for Sudan, a free event happening this Saturday 14 September, from 2pm at Dalston Solidarity Cafe (Halkevi).  See below for more details.

Come down to meet and eat with us on this day of talks, poetry, arts and craft and so much more.  GEM Collective is proud to be collaborating with the brilliant folk from Captain Support, Dalston Solidarity Cafe, East African Collective, London for Sudan, Madaniya SDG and Nejma Collective for this gathering.
We will be fundraising for Sudanese causes, so please come with what you can (we’ll have QR codes and card-readers!). 

On the day:

  • Free food and drinks
  • Clothes drive for Captain Support Captains (see below for details)
  • Henna and merch stall – all proceeds donated to 2 Sudanese causes:
  • Stalls from Sudanese artists and artisans
  • Talks and poetry from Sudanese folk in the UK and beyond
  • Letter writing to incarcerated comrades
  • A quiet space with arts and crafts and room to pray
  • Clothes swap, free books, free binders, banner-making and more!

Accessibility
The space is wheelchair accessible/has step-free access (through the Tyssen Street entrance)
We will have BSL interpreters on the day – you can let us know if you require an interpreter by emailing gemresearchcollective@gmail.com.

Creating a safe space
We would be so grateful if those attending could take all precautions to make the event as safe as possible for all who will be there. Please take a home Covid test before coming, and do not attend if you test positively, or have symptoms of a possibly contagious illness.
If attending, please wear a mask during the event, unless you are unable. We ask this as an act of necessary community care in solidarity with disabled and chronically ill members of the community.

Clothes drive info from Captain Support:
Many people we support arrive with nothing and are provided with one grey tracksuit only. We are looking for good quality men’s clothing and shoes. Can be used but must not be damaged. No hoodies, sports logos or plain black clothes can be accepted.

We especially need:

  • joggers
  • t shirts
  • underwear (new)
  • socks
  • jumpers (no hoods)
  • trainers size 8-12
